During the 1950s, the NCCL campaigned for reform of the mental health system, under which people known to be sane but deemed 'morally defective' – unmarried mothers, for example – could be locked up in an asylum. By 1957, the campaign had seen the release of around 2,000 inmates, the abolition of the Mental Deficiency Act 1913, and the establishment of new Mental Health Review Tribunals which culminated in the Mental Health Act 1959.

The Mental Deficiency Act 1913 (3 & 4 Geo. 5. c. 28) was an act of Parliament of the United Kingdom creating provisions for the institutional treatment of people deemed to be "feeble-minded" and "moral defectives".[1] People deemed "mentally defective" under this Act could be locked up indefinitely in a "mental deficiency colony", despite not being diagnosed with any mental illness or disability, or committing any crime.[2]

why do reddit users treat female predators way better than male ones? I saw a thread with this dude sayuing his gf wants to have his baby or have her impregnate her and also lied about her age claiming to be like 22 while hes 18 when he found out she really is 28. and no one really was hard on her on that thread.
