I, for one, am disappointed. This could have been a great day for science, and maybe one of the best weeks for science in recent memory (Beresheet, Falcon Heavy launch, and of course Katie Bouman's revolutionary black hole picture).

Drugs are... a thing to be enjoyed in healthy moderation. Strict abstinence is just a sobriety addiction (or something, shut up). Also drugs are a handy crutch that allow miserable people to push through all the bullshit in life so they can *not* be losers. If you have to smoke a bit of kush/get drunk every now and then to make it through med school without losing your goddamn mind, more power to you. It's only a problem when you're smoking weed/drinking so you can keep doing your dead-end job without losing your mind, which you're only working to be able to afford the booze/weed/food/shelter etc that you need to keep working that dead-end job. Which, I mean... doesn't necessarily make you a loser, but it's not a good life. :/

I mean, I agree... but at the same time I don't like Mexicans. If every interaction I had, I called you a filthy spic... would it be a problem? Should I pull my punches and lie about how I feel about you by omission? Probably. Because it's the fundamentally decent way to behave. Similarly I wouldn't go around calling gay people faggots. Misgendering someone isn't exactly a 1:1 analogy here, but the philosophy behind not misgendering people is more or less the same - it's a slight tweak in the language you may want to use to avoid causing someone grief. Choosing not to make that tweak makes you an asshole. But you're free to be an asshole. Just don't act like you aren't an asshole just because you're being honest about how you feel.

That's because people are constantly shitting on their country out of jealousy. Legit, I think every anglosphere country runs a show at least once a year where they cherrypick interviews with Americans saying dumb shit. And the only reason I can think of for doing that is that other countries in the anglosphere have literally nothing to be proud of over America, and have to resort to making Americans look like mouth breathing retards. Probably countries outside the anglosphere too, now that I think about it. And the irony is people actually think "lol I can't belive how dumb Americans are" instead of realizing it's just edited to paint an obviously unfavorable picture of how retarded the average American is for laughs. Which makes them basically as stupid.

Well gadzooks, sounds like your life is pretty fucked at the moment. Wish I had some meaningful advice, but about all I can come up with is shunning your responsibilities entirely and exploring our wonderful country. There's a lot to see. Have a car? Drive up to the arctic circle. See the northern lights. I don't know. Sounds like you need to make some kinda pilgrimage at least. Any chance of moving to a new city? A new province? Pretty good escape tactic. Wish I could tell you something more helpful. :/
