nobody who's not retarded thinks telegram is totally secure and anonymous; just like any other service you need to worry about security for yourself. they're a for-profit company that now pushes a subscription service so they're forced to act on subpoenises and court orders, but unlike the big social media/chat platforms they don't go out of their way to look for wrongthink and/or naughty speech because they're headquartered in Russia/KSA and for the most part just don't care.
for what it's worth they do offer end-to-end encrypted chat, but only direct chat, you can't E2E encrypt a channel
