   Foreign influence is high on the list of things that can change their mind on any given issue. So are, ultimately, the demands of the people under them.

   It's very different running a country Vs running an insurgency. They are becoming the de facto legitimate government of Afghanistan. A country necessarily exists in a global context. They will necessarily need trade, they will necessarily need diplomacy. With foreign influences.
   
   The Taliban are not a monolith, all the same internal political stresses will still come into play as time goes by. And those stresses will push the relevant elements to turn outwards.
