Are you looking forward to the big war with Iran?

it seems like something hit it, but it's not possible to say how serious.

maybe there was damage to the deck or catapult system so it's not possible for planes to launch at the moment.

maybe the damage is purely cosmetic and they've gone on media lockdown so that nobody reports on it; the supply drop isn't mission-critical until they deplete their existing stocks.

Interesting. Could be they just don't want to give their position away? I know we can guess where it is, but it's not on marine traffic or anything like that, is it?

that hasn't been a problem since the claimed hit so I dunno what else would change their behaviour

Saudi Arabia is not renewing the 50-year Petrodollar agreement with the US & it expires on June 9, 2024.

    For those who don't know,

The petrodollar was established in 1974, three years after the U.S. abandoned the gold standard.
Under the Petrodollar Agreement, Saudi Arabia agreed to sell oil exclusively in U.S. dollars in exchange for U.S. military, security, and economic development assistance.

    Link to original agreement: https://www.fordlibrarymuseum.gov/library/document/0314/1552718.pdf

interesting. this removes one of the three major pegs of US dominance of the global economy and stability of the USD as sole reserve currency (petrodollar, financialism, US Navy) - I don't expect KSA will rapidly de-dollarise immediately, more that it'll be a slow process of trading in more local currencies, but it'll be interesting to see how the powers that be react to it.

actually the dates are right but I'm having trouble finding any sort of confirmation that KSA won't be renewing the agreement. it's mostly anti-fed metal traders that are hyping it but they don't seem to have much in the way of hard evidence

KSA's said they're open to trading in local currencies but that seems to be it

Prince Fahd agreed with the President's statement and noted that USSaudi friendship went back to a time long before oil became a major issue. Prince Fahd stressed that friendship and mutual interests with the United States would be the basis for Saudi Arabian foreign policy. He said that this was true not because of the benefits it would bring but as a correct end in itself. Prince Fahd stated that his country had always admired the US position.

    Amazing document.

I think the Saudis did kinda admire America, and their bet on America certainly pay off.

Nowadays, I think the Saudis deplore America as a country that cuts the tits off of little girls, and I don't think they see any benefit in hitching their wagon to a gay woke empire in late stage necrosis.

50 years ago all the Saudi oil fields, like Ghawar, were fresh or were just coming online. The Saudis are majorly macho about their capacity to produce oil, but the fact is most of the Saudi oil has already been pumped up and burned. I don't think it's selflessness that motivates the Saudis to cut production to balance the oil market, it's concern for the future and desire to conserve what they have. MBS isn't old in political terms, he has 40 years to go at least, and those 40 years are going to involve managing the decline of Saudi production capacity. The Aramco IPO is fraught too, and a transparent cash grab, cashing in on previous performance, that people expect to continue forever. How many barrels of oil are actually left in the ground in Saudi Arabia? Perhaps less than people expect.

Texas oil production. The big peak is shale oil/tight oil/fracked oil, but those wells deplete after 5 years or so.

I agree, it's a popular 'fringe' theory that Saudi Arabia and perhaps the gulf states in general are past their peak oil output, and without the discovery of new deposits they will be overtaken on the market. at the moment there are big untapped deposits in Iran, near israel and Lebanon and now in the Arctic, none of which help them maintain their position.

Shale is not really viable. Even at projected outputs (10 years or so) oil prices need to be over 110 (from memory) to be competitive; anything lower and the cost of cracking/maintenance overruns profit.

Projected outputs are almost never accurate though; they're meant to drive investment - typically shale deposits have a life of 5-8 years MAXIMUM, which ruins any projections of profitability

The head of the IDF’s Northern Command Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin and head of the Operations Directorate Maj. Gen. Oded Basiuk approved Lebanon battle plans on Tuesday, the military said, following a recent intensification of cross-border fighting with Hezbollah.

In a statement, the IDF said the generals held an assessment, during which “operational plans for an offensive in Lebanon were approved.”

The top commanders also made decisions regarding “accelerating the readiness of the forces on the ground,” the military added.

The announcement came amid repeated attacks by Hezbollah and allied Palestinian terror groups in Lebanon on northern Israel, with fears of a wider conflict.

Israel has warned it can no longer tolerate Hezbollah’s presence along its border following the October 7 atrocities, and has warned that should a diplomatic solution not be reached, it will turn to military action to push Hezbollah northward.

I'm sceptical if the jedis will actually do it. It's easy to approve plans to prepare for something, especially if you are stalling for time for a retarded leader to get kicked out of office.

I didn't think they'd try for Rafah, I guess I was half right since it was mostly aerial bombardment and a small ground force, but as expected Sisi rolled over so there was no real deterrent even after the IDF killed an Egyptian border guard.

they probably will try to push Lebanon to distract from their crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, but if they do it will be humiliating. I've said before it's unlikely they'll actually do it until they can secure direct US support.

US officially reports that negotiations with Hezbullah have failed, and the Gerald Ford CSG is now moving fast toward Haifa.

    Hassan Nasrallah:

'The enemy must expect us to come by air, land and sea. In case of an imposed war on Lebanon, the Resistance will fight with no boundaries.

We will abide by no equations, nor any laws. Let the Zionist enemy and their American masters hear this carefully.'
