2023-10-24 at 2:27 PM UTCalso merkavas are not the best tank in the world.
none of the weapons expert i know of thinks merkava is a great tank by any definition.
granted i dont know any, but if i do, they'd still be saying the same thing. -

I meant unlimited range submerged. The Iranians don't have much need for an open water navy…they live on an oversized lake. They work just fine against tankers and cargo ships…and any country with a poor ASW capability
ie, defensive purposes. -

Their vaunted anti-antitank missile system isn't so effective after all.

They began the preliminary designs of the merkava after their war with the a-rabs in the early 70s which they based on balls-to-the-wall frontal attacks with poor/mediocre maneuvering and their glacis (front) plates taking massive damage. The kike designer thought it'd be a good idea to mount the drive train in the front to better protect the crew…which was actually a dumbass idea because normal tankers don't sit still or intentionally sit still long enough to get hit intentionally. Now the merkava takes a penetrating hit in the front and it's a soft kill as in the tank is no longer mobile. Any other tank would still have mobility because it's engine/tranny is in the trunk.
That's why no other country buys them
BS.

those merkavas primary task was to breach and bulldoze over structures.
its a niche military task that only the isreali army have of all military in the world and they didnt have armored bulldozer then.
i believe they have to value the tank operators' lives more than the tanks because isreali military are mostly made up of mandated conscripts, ie national services. -

What sort of logic is that?
They value the tank drivers cos the tank drivers are chosenites, the only people who matter. -

2023-10-25 at 12:25 AM UTCwhile it's true that they're valuable nobody's spending $5-10mil to train a tank crew
specialists like tankers and pilots/air crews are valued more because of the time it'd take to train their replacements and the inability to do so in a state of war -
2023-10-25 at 12:41 AM UTCHalf the reason for the Merkava is to keep infantry alive.
Russians and Americans use Infantry Fighting Vehicles (BMPs/Bradleys), which don't tend to survive all that well on a modern battlefield. There's some pictures of the inside of some which got hit by various munitions on the Ukraine thread. It's basically infantry spaghetti bolognaise. But conscripts are cheap, which is why Ukraine has no problem sending hundreds of thousands of them to die. None of the people dying are jedi, of course. -
