    They don't, but it's nicer when they are. This is kind of like saying "babies don't need to breathe". Accomplishing your political aims without violence and destruction is always the ideal, and saying "protests don't need to be civil" just gives people the excuse not to look for a better way.

    But anytime there are protests in the US, any country worth their salt will do the same thing, and only show peaceful demonstrations even if they're beheading cops. The same way the US does for countries that don't have sufficient freedumbz and whatnot.
