Vinny, I can't give you tips on how to get and retain friends...I can tell you I have lifelong friends back home in England who I don't spend any measurable about of time "weekly" with...but when I do see them/talk to them the friendship is still as strong as it was 40yrs ago.
That's a real friend...not what who demands/requires a set amount of time "per week"

then get some, it's not difficult, most people are open to new friends...it's up to you to pursue that if that's your desire.
Get a hobby, join a club...very soon several/many of those club members may be your friends (as long as you don't talk about sucking dick/stealing/taking drugs/ripping people off) -

that's how i met my 2 friends from AA that I fish wth.
I hope to do something involving Yoga soon (i used to do yoga for years but gave up awhile ago).
I've considered joining a local gardening club.
WHen I was in rehab i tried to think of good places to meet stable people that aren't extremely chaotic lifestyle livers, i came up with yoga classes & local gardening club.

have been keeping the people whom i talked to and co workers from becoming friends because i know its only a matter of time before i hate them or i hate myself for putting up with them.
and like you, i too have good friends that i hadnt seen or spoke to since 2003 that has migrated to another country. i know because i stalked their facebook many years ago when facebook was a thing. -

i went to rehab, made 3 friends, 1 is a devout muslim who cleans constantly, 1 is this big ol' nigger named terrance lol, & 1 is this white guy but he blocked me when i called him just wasted before i left florida
after rehab, my friend who got mangled by the train on his ebike last week, mission john that nigga was always on a mission!
then my 2 fishin friends, 1 is my roommate and the other is his sponsor, theey are the best fisherman i've ever fished the ocean with!
one of them told me to grab a jellyfish (The first i had ever seen in my life lol) and i reached into the water and the one pushed me and said dont that's a fuckin dying jellyfish

2022-09-29 at 3:28 PM UTCwe found out we can eat iguanas, right, so when i came back from visitin my people i brought me a bow no arrow and 2 fishin poles. 1 had it's knob fall off, but u know what, that's OK! so I got this brand new 200$ bow and i told ALL my people (2) about how we finna shoot iguanas and carp and racoons with the harpoon arrow attatchment (sold seperately) and that we gonna be so gang cuz either u hit the iguana with a harpoon and u got 30 feet of rope OR OR OR u miss and reel in ur arrow
