Again…pretty much the same decision the USA made, save lives and end the war quickly…it worked for the USA.

No, they've made a special point not to attack civilian and political infrastructure. They've chosen not to destroy Ukraine's political centre. Why?

Japan was already in talks to surrender to the USSR (after the destruction of the Kwantung army) and even the US strategic bomber command fought against using nuclear weapons because conventional bombings were deemed sufficient. The reason they were used was to force Japan into surrendering to the US and as an open threat to the USSR. This is not relevant to the current situation.

    "similar".

Again the purpose of dropping the bomb on Japan was to cut casualties/save money/end the war quickly (which it did all 3)....that's all relevant to the current situation from Putin's point of view who is under pressure from within to get it done and end the massive cost/loss of Russian lives.

he's already alluded to it...and days before the "referendum"...coincidence?

Lol @ not attacking civilian infrastructure....

Yes the plan was originally to take Kiev QUICKLY, they had it surrounded for days...they failed and retreated.

No, it wasn't. I just explained why - in short, the US was more concerned about the USSR as a potential threat at that point, considering the Axis was more or less destroyed. See OPERATION DROPSHOT.

Up until a week ago, lights and communications were still on all across the country.

Regardless of what you think their intentions were at the time, they've dropped Kalibrs and Iskanders on military targets in and around Kiev throughout the war. They could just as easily destroy political centres.

Again... Why do you think nuclear weapons would do something conventional weapons wouldn't?

Meanwhile civilian infrastructure has been targeted directly..hospitals, residential centers etc with intercepted communications captured from generals effectively saying "kill them allllll".

Well it's not just what I think, the general consensus is they failed to take Kiev because they were ill equipped, poorly trained, lacking supplies and that lead to Ukrainian forces building a strong defensive line.

Again… Why do you think nuclear weapons would do something conventional weapons wouldn't?

    Again...I've answered this TWICE already

You mean the 'Russians are going to run out of fuel and ammo in three days' 'general consensus'?

You haven't answered this at all. The only thing that comes close to an answer is 'nuclear bombs can kill the politicians in Kiev', as if they were immune to KALIBRs.

You mean they had 10s of miles long lines of heavy equipment parked up outside of Kiev for days and then just withdrew them all because they had nothing better to do?

Yeah you need to go read it again...I've answered this TWICE and at no point said what you put in quotes "nuclear bombs can kill the politicians in kiev"

depends on the yield and if you detonate on the ground or in the air...stay in school kid. A small tactical nuke will have minimal effect on the Russian border...when there's nothing but cows there anyway.

It was largely to tie up and cut off reinforcements to the east, where 70+% of Ukraine's standing army was staging to start a new 'ATO' on the Donbass.

if you assume the pretext is true, that 'decapitation' could work, you think this can't be done with conventional weapons?

In such a quick and effective way? no...just like Truman didn't either (who was of sound mind).

a small tactical nuke doesnt count as "nuke" in the sense that will not trigger MAD.

pls explain why would the russians resort to deploying more expensive, tactical nukes when their conventional bombs have equal or higher yeild than unconventional, nuclear powered ones.
