For the record, FELLAS, traditionally eggs Benedict is served on English muffins, but you can absolutely do the same thing with toast and it's still called an eggs Benedict.

They aren't REQUIRED, they are just the standard. Whatever you call them in whatever country you live in, that doesn't matter. The things that Americans call English muffins, are the standard for eggs Benedict. If they're called American Muffins in England, then if I'm talking to someone in England I guess I'd say that eggs Benedict are made standard with American Muffins.
Nothing is actually REQUIRED. or maybe it is but I don't know what the KEY COMPONENT IS.
People order them and the baseline is toasted muffin, ham, poached egg, hollandaise sauce, but where I worked the majority of the people chose TOSSO as their meat, and ham was the minority. Rarely some chose bacon. Sometimes people wanted toast instead of muffin. Sometimes people wanted no bread at all. Sometimes people wanted scrambled eggs or over easy eggs instead of poached. Sometimes people wanted hollondaise on the side or nine at all. Ultimately though, it was still referred to as an eggs Benedict.
I don't know how many components are necessary to make it so though.
Like the EGG is key, obviously. But if you just got hollondaise poured over some eggs I wouldn't consider that a Benedict. I think you need at least 3 of the 4.
