the first major chemical attack in Ghouta was never attributed to anyone, largely because the OPCW inspector was fired for pointing out the rebels were the most likely culprit
the chlorine gas attacks were never attributed to the government, several were confirmed to have been rebels, and the rebels controlled the country's biggest chlorine plant in Hafta for the majority of the war
the Douma 'chemical attack' was never a chemical attack at all, it was staged as one by the White Helmets after a rebel mortar hit an apartment block and people in the basement were treated for dust inhalation

All Russian stated claims about why they started the war can be pointed to and proven, whether they're honest reasons or not, reasons they haven't stated also paint them as in the right.
As for unifying NATO it's the result that the US wanted and proves Russia's point about NATO encroachment with this being the likely end goal, poke the bear.
But it's never made a terribly large difference when Russia are currently the superior nuclear country just they won't have buffer states now to deal with conventional maneuver warfare that they'd expect.
They neither care for Ukraine or their own member states, their own actions show this by provocation through material support.
I'm okay with Russia killing nazis because they're slavs, I'm not okay with nazis killing ethnic Russians because they're white.
