Military Genius Zelensky wants Ukrainians to throw molotovs at Russian tanks

currently the Ukrainians appear to be trying to prevent lines from collapsing due to lack of manpower and morale through the floor while simultaneously pouring the bulk of their resources into attacking Russian AA systems and early warning radars. they'e even attacked a strategic long-range radar station at Voronezh attached to the Russian nuclear command (which has little to no bearing on the Ukrainian battlefield).

they're contradictory positions; the former indicates that their ability to fight is close to depleted, but the latter is what you do when you're trying to 'soften' the enemy in preparation for an attack.

the clear implication is that the way is being prepared for other forces to enter the war on the side of Ukraine - the question is whether other parties have agreed to it, or whether Zelensky is desperately trying to force their hand.

Those radars are expensive, and are large targets that can't be moved. Hitting them isn't the worst tactic I have ever heard of.

It certainly makes more sense than sending untrained kids to the trenches and hoping for the best, which is the current Ukrainian plan.

The reaction to this would be interesting to see.

those long range ICBM radars have no tactical value even if it was meant to soften russia for NATO/ coalition of the ja intervention.

unless foreign intervention come in the form of nuke ICBMs.

from what I understand it was one major strategic installation that was damaged along with a 2-3 long-range (S350/S400) AA/AD batteries. in each case they targeted the complex with around 10 ATACMs, and while several were intercepted they're apparently stealthy enough that they can't be locked onto until they're very close (typically those units have a 200km-400km interception range, but in the videos that are floating around online they only start firing off interceptors like 20 seconds before impact).

those s300/400 are in active use and attrition and losing some of them were all factored in as a cost of doing war and can be promptly replaced.

also the bolded part i think the word your trying to use is "detection" range. they can detect flying objects from as far as 400km depending on what they are but whether they can intercept it or not depends on a variety of factors.

Maybe the short range interceptors are cheaper, or they allowed the missiles past because they weren't aware they were targeting anything important?

The Russians had short war syndrome and thought the war would be a 3 day special military operation to topple the gay jedi regime in Kiev, and thought the only cost they would have would be some jet engine sanctions.

if it was so then they would have pour everything into it and show hand in 3 days instead of saving 70% of their actual forces to greet NATO.

anyway without foreign intervention it would have been rather short expedition. they were realy to give up before bo"bozo"jo went in and soothsayed the ukrainians into a prolonged conflict.

ideally they'd have stuff like PANTSIRs and BUKs to protect the longer-range complexes but either they didn't or they weren't able to detect/intercept the ATACMs, I don't really expect to hear detail on how Russian AA/AD networks are configured on the battlefield

yeah that was the original goal until the reserves were called up for attrition and siege; I have to assume they'd planned for the eventuality though and didn't just assume the initial push was going to work so there was no need for backup plans.

No one expected the Ukrianians to actually fight. That surprised everyone.

And don't forget the trick the pro-general war faction pulled during negotiations. They had the Ukrianians tell the Russians to pull back their troops, which were starting to encircle Kiev, as a gesture of good faith.

Then, when the Russians naievely pulled back, they manufactured a transparently false-flag massacre in a town called Bucha which the Russians had left a day or two before.

After that, and after one of the negotiators on the Ukrainian side was murdered for being a Russian spy, meaning he wasn't sufficiently insane, there was no chance for peace.

yes they did, those neo/classical/neo-classical NAZIs arent going anywhere without a fight,

and there were also respectable quantity of reddit battalions and what not.

it's wild that people still unironically believe Russians did Bucha

nevermind that that it was only reported several days after Russian forces left, and the mayor was broadcasting daily status updates
nevermind that almost all of the victims on video were wearing white armbands, which is a symbol that they're friendly to Russian forces
nevermind that there are videos of the Ukrainian forces going into the city talking about 'killing all traitors'

I remember writing a bit about that assassination, from memory the guy was assassinated by the SBU for being a 'Russian spy' when in actuality he was a Ukrainian GRU agent meant to steer the negotiations

That was the weirdest thing. It was found a few days later, then there were bodies in the street. It was bizarre, but similar to the Syrian sarin gassing stories.

I used to think that the people killed must have been people who died from crossfire, but I'm pretty sure they were just dragged out and shot, as unimaginably evil as is. If they would shoot their own protestors in the centre of kiev as they did at Euromaidan, they will shoot their own pensioners in some shithole village on the road to chernobyl.

Dead men tell no tales, etc. If he was really a Russian spy they wouldn't have shot him (or whatever they did).
