historically they've always tried to hit waste disposal/storage, IIRC the Russians put massive concrete slabs on the roof to prevent rockets penetrating it

irrelevant to the war unless you believe the ridiculous casualty numbers given by the Ukrainian government

    what?

why do you think territory is important? of course the AFU has to take territory at the cost of men in order to keep the weapons and money flowing from its benefactors, but Russia is far more concerned with degrading the AFU with as little loss of life and equipment as possible because after a certain point, the AFU won't have the capability to hold territory so previous claims are moot.

LOL. do you seriously believe this? even if you don't believe casualty numbers coming from either side, it's taught in military academies that 75% of casualties in modern ground warfare come from artillery. both sides, along with most countries with modern militaries agree on this. Russia is firing roughly 10x the artillery the AFU is per day, from better artillery (and MLRS) units with better-trained crews. realistically it's likely that the AFU is losing the casualty race at around 4-5:1.

Russia initially deployed around 150,000 (of their 800,000-1,000,000 standing army) troops to the SMO, mostly standoff weapons and operators, and relied heavily on the LDNR units and Wagner for frontline operations. They then mobilised 300,000 reservists and veterans - these were NOT drawn from their standing army - who are mostly not currently at the front lines.

even if all forces inside the Ukraine were totally obliterated somehow, there are still a bare minimum of 600,000 troops held in reserve including tank units and the strategic missile forces.

I cbh to break down neatly so ill use numbers because autism

    1. No it hasn't "been beneficial to their economy by all metrics" at all, not even close. Of course everything is shitty and inflated now but the economy shrank in 2022, was about 0 in 2023 when you consider gdp is heavily reflective of military spending its especially grim.

    https://www.wilsoncenter.org/blog-post/putins-war-costs-changing-russias-economy

    2. Did you not know that Russias had a demographic crisis for a decade or so now with too many aging pensioners and too few young men? Everyone else did, especially Russia (partly the cause of all the stuff calling Russia homophobic) idk how you could have missed that. How would conscription and sending young, uneducated men to die at the front line or return with PTSD help their obvious demographic issues?

    3. They're getting BTFO by old UK shit and russias last big wave of modernization was a decade ago give or take. The whole world knows Russia doesn't have any amazing tricks up its sleeve anymore

    4. Textbook cope. "We didn't want that territory that we had anyway. There was a funny rock on it." COME ON LOL. Territory is important, especially in Ukraine for getting the upper hand. Fleeing from Kherson and failing to prevent any roads and railroads from being destroyed for resupply purposes. Literally "Why do you think taking territory is important?" O Idk Maybe because that's the whole point of war/life.

"Russia is just holding front lines and preventing loss of casualties and equipment" BAHAHA since when? How are all these Ukranians getting Russian tanks and equipment? "Degrading the AFU" do they seem "degraded?" I would have loved to see Russia just roll right over them but it's been a long slow shitting of the bed on Russias part and I'm pretty sure it's only gonna get more embarrassing.

    5. Russia's "standing army" is less than 1M when you consider combat ready corps. They've sent alot of Cannon fodder in which, for better or worse has made their demographic troubles worse, however putin may be dead when this really comes to fruition.

Regardless, Ukraine, previously a super corrupt shithole has been redeemed and endeared in the INL com eyes and given access to markets it was previously shut out of, will have a massive "reconstruction plan" after etc etc etc. Given weapons and destroyed their own territory that was mostly either inaccessible or generally shitty.

Meanwhile Russia has been sinking tons of its own resources and depleting its gold reserves to fund a zero sum affair. Russia has been by all accounts taking severe casualties, you can believe the numbers from either side or you can just count how many times they've had to call in New units and refresh troops. After this long its pretty clear Russia isn't able to roll over Ukraine and is just trying to hold territory and scratch out some minor moral victories. A total Russian victory is off the table, they're in a Vietnam scenario at this point and just trying to find enough of a silver living to declare a tepid win. They're obviously worried about the coming Ukrainian counteroffensive but the total inability to take and retain territory while holding off counter measures has been terrible.

Usually countries that are supposed to be superpowers don't have this much trouble taking over ANY cities in corrupt third world hellholes. Russia fucked up by not having their men in Kiev anymore and thinking old intelligence was still good. Plus a ton of other things.

Idk do you think this was how anyone in Russia hoped it would go? Do you think there is a way to declare victory without looking like Russia is retreating with its tail between its legs? If they just expand the territory of DPR/LPR and get a little further up the Crimean coast and can connect Crimea to the territories is that enough to declare a victory? I don't think so, not at this cost, they're going to want guaranteed provisions they know they'll never get and thus they're gonna end up slowly losing more and more ground over time like Vietnam. It's stoking anti establishment sentiment in Russia too. They really fucked up this play

you're seriously going to cite the US government to claim that Russia's economy is doing poorly?

fun fact: the EU is still buying Russian gas, they just buy it from India to evade their own retarded sanctions.

it's the same demographic problems everyone in the first world is facing, exacerbated by the problems after the fall of the soviet union. pretending the war is the major driver here is disingenuous.

why do you think they're getting 'BTFO' by anything, especially the NLAWs that the Ukrainians themselves have stated have around a 25% chance of firing at all?

the majority of everyone's military is 'old' tech. the bulk of the US air force is from the 70s, same goes for much of Europe. do you know what the lead time is for the HIMARS they promised to the Ukrainians, or the ABRAMS promised to Poland?

reread and try to comprehend that point - once the AFU is degraded past a certain point, Russia can simply claim whatever territory they want. territory doesn't matter if you lose the capability to hold it.

Kherson's actually a good example - Russia could've tried to hold it, but there was no point in them bleeding the manpower because A) the AFU had a huge numerical advantage and were being resupplied from Nikolaev and B) they were constantly trying to destroy the dam and flood the whole city anyway. the Russians evacuated civilians, then moved to the natural barrier and blasted the AFU every time they tried to enter the city.

tanks and equipment are destroyed or abandoned all the time, it's a war. if you think a few photos of destroyed tanks with Zs hastily spraypainted on them is evidence of anything, well...

considering the AFU is snatching old men and literal children off the streets of Kiev on their 6th or 7th mobilisation, yes, it's safe to say their manpower is significantly degraded.

again, where are you getting this idea about 'cannon fodder' and massive losses?

they cycle active and inactive units to avoid fatigue and demoralisation. this is a normal thing when your army isn't down to people you've snatched off the street.

you understand that, corruption aside, Ukraine had the largest and best-equipped conventional army in Europe before 2014, right? and then 8 years of NATO buildup. and then hundreds of billions of dollars of equipment funneled into it after the invasion - more than twice as much as Russia's TOTAL annual military budget.

but yeah, I guess they're doing terribly compared to the US bombing the shit out of Afghan guerillas and civilians, occupying two cities and making no progress only to be kicked out 20 years later.

first attempt was to go to Kiev and kick out the government, when that didn't work it switched to attrition, and now they're just going to keep using artillery to slowly pulverise the AFU until the country is 'demilitarised'

but its still at a much lower cost per barell everyone knows this that russia is cutting its previous rates to sell to india so it can sell to eu at even a lower price. plus the fact still stands its eocnomy is equal or lower to italy in terms of gdp so if italy wanted to invest as much into its military it could and even take over russia in no time.

also, it's actually the exact opposite of the Vietnam scenario because the US was forced out when the PANV got it's hands on modern Soviet AA gear and brought down 10,000 or so US aircraft

Ukraine is now almost totally out of SAM munitions so Russia has stepped up the use of heavy bombers all down the contact line

yes according to you they are so good to civilians and the wangers did not murder them hod,ing out in basements ioncluding women and chidlren and russians are not constantly shelling apartment buildings depsite the footage evidence?
