That is an urban legend partially based on truth. In the public school systems in 4th grade you had to bring in a cigar box and decorate it in art class for your art supplies box. Many girls in the 60's and early 70's would pick their cootie scabs and glue them to the cigar boxes. This made sure that no boys would steal their crayons, glue, or glitter.
