I just spent $390 for an old 486 computer

    Um no...dumbo. PC momtherboards run off DC voltage put out by the power supply...the AC input is irrelevant.

    It is as far as how the motherboard works dumbo...the motherboard doesn't run off A/C.

    You can take a PC mother board from China, India, Chili, Liberia and Kenya and they will all work off a 110v or 220v AT power supply...because AT power supplies all give out the same DC voltages...it's a standard.

    ...well maybe not the Liberia and Kenya ones..you'll need electricity generated from yak shit for those.

    Irrelevant. The PC in this setup is power 100% off the batteries (using an online UPS).

    You could even power it from a generator, or solar array...no need for plugging it into "the wall".

    Again though...it doesn't matter..you are only powering the power supply..not the motherboard...the motherboard is provided the same DC voltages no matter what country it is in.

  15. Some people like to use the real hardware, I'm one of them. Emulating RARELY carries 100% accuracy too..you also can't use the thousands of peripherals/cards etc with an emulator...again, if hardware is your thing you need the real deal to play with various hardware configurations.

    Direct current is the flow of an electric charge in one direction. It is the steady state of a constant voltage circuit. If you are outputting 12VDC you are outputting 12VDC...there is nothing for a "Sensitive motherboard" to detect other than the 12VDC and the current...

    A 12VDC 5A output from an AC adapter, a UPS, a Solar array, an inverter board, a water powered generator etc etc...IS 12VDC 5A...There is NOTHING to detect as far as "Oh! this comes from a windmill!"

    not all DCs are the same. let me repeat:

    have you examined DCs under an osciloscope.
