How are you coping with the death of Douglas Monks?

That started back in 2012 and I think went on for a little while because I finally remember meeting the guy after a few years. He died a year or so after that. Doug honestly would do whatever he could get his hands on. He was pretty desperate for release. Most days he'd have to get up first thing in the morning and walk to the store for a beer. If he'd try to quit or not have money to get beer, he'd get really sick after 2-3 days. I told him if he ever really wanted to quit, he'd have to go to rehab because if he did it on his own he'd die. There was a time or two he did try, and he ended up having seizures.

Yeah my friend who is an recovering alcoholic has them. Just shows you how bad the drink can get. I've had alcohol shakes from epic binges, but never needed it physically.

Thank you very much for all of your insight, Cheezeburger. It's been very enlightening.

in the past few years he was doing it more frequently. When I was binging on it in 2017 he told me he hadn't done it in a few years, he started doing it again a few years ago but I think only recently since covid started to get more into it.

If he was binging for the past few months I could see that leading to an mental health crisis, and knowing him he is probably taking other shit too. If you have a problem with drinking and you start doing meth it's just gonna make you drink a lot more

I didn't think i would miss Doug this much. He made me smile and laugh a lot. We gave each other a hard time but i really admired his humor and distinctiveness. He was one of a kind. Sounds like he did have severe troubles, but his only coping mechanism was denial/substance abuse. He wasn't willing to help himself. He always used to make fun of me about taking Lexapro. I could never figure out why. Now i think i know why.

Great points. Douglas shed a lot of insight to us about his life, but he vastly understated how much he apparently did methamphetamine. Prob the worst drug to combine with bipolar disorder.

I don't feel bad for dead people, because they're dead. They don't know how you feel about them anymore. They don't know you miss them. They don't know you feel bad about their death. When you commiserate about dead people, you are only doing it for yourself. It's one-sided. Nothing you say or feel about it is going to reach the dead person. As Jesus said, "Let the dead bury the dead."

I feel like maybe it's us who are the problem. Maybe if we leave this community and break with our past we'll all be free to live happy healthy lives.

That somehow our apathy our hate our cowardice brought this about

Yes you will all probably be better off but no one hasn’t the strength to do it. You’re all codependent as fuck.
