Also there’s not a lot in dark souls that’s not reactable. Enemies and bosses for the most part operate on the same principle as players, meaning a lot of windup with a tell. It’s not deterministic, which I’m guessing is the case with cup head, so they’re not super execution heavy games which I think is part of what throws people. Like yeah, if you’re shit you can repeat the same canned roll attack pattern a hundred times and eventually it’ll line up enough that you can get past an area, but if you play the game the right way you don’t have to, you can watch and react and not grind endlessly

Yeah but its still a bit random. Dark Souls is far from the only game with this kind of mechanic. You can tell when a lot of attacks are coming. The difference is that those attacks will knock out like half your health in Dark Souls. It's artificially difficult. They just increased the damage. If they didn't have that, and the game was easy, it would be incredibly shitty. The whole selling point is the high damage. There are much better fighting RPGs with better combat systems that you can just turn the difficulty up. Dragon's Dogma comes to mind.

KCD's story was good just kind of bland a lot of times. Mainly because of the dialogue. A LOT of the characters just felt like they were playing a role and didn't have any actual personality. There were the occasional interesting characters peppered in but for the most part dudes like Divish and Radzig just totally bored me. The ending was also pretty lackluster.

The fighting in that game is amazing though. Reminds me of Mount and Blade. It's cool how you can still get killed by bandits if heavily armored (in hardcore) if they just stick you in the right spot or get you out numbered. Any more than 2 or 3 bandits and I run because they can take you from behind. I won't take on Cumans alone unless I happen to catch one on patrol. There's always the sense that you could get killed. I know there's some bandits in the hills between Ledtcheko and Sasau that nab me a lot because the trail is winding and treacherous and forces you to slow down.

Like, you can tell which forests are cultivated forests and which are true wild forest. Bathhouses are always by a river because they need water, as are the charcoal burners. You'll never find the executioner in town. Learning to read as adult henry is appropriately dyslexic. You can spot all the shit holes in all the lord's castles, and find a nice pile of royal shit beneath it. It all makes sense for the time period.

It's a game that was built by people who play games. Not the best production, testing, bug fixes, or punctuality but well worth the wait for any bugfixes. Can't wait for KCD2. Gonna go on a big trip to celebrate it.

Yeah I'm really glad they fixed most of the major bugs. I had my first save wiped around launch.

Hope Cyberpunk gets the same treatment.

I'm not buying it till its on a serious discount lol. Like most games I buy.

From the reviews it seems like 80% of that game is just the aesthetic which is admittedly very cool. But Witcher 3 was pretty buggy on release too and turned out to be a fantastic game, so I think they'll iron everything out.

They took fucking forever to make it though, there's really no excuse lol. After the release date got pushed back and back and back? They fucked up.
