Making your own NES game in 6502 assembly is now possible. Next people are going to reverse engineer the 16 bit generation.
These old pieces of hardware would otherwise be lost forever to history and the software all gone forever one day. But because of projects like this old consoles will live on forever as long as we can replace the parts.
They will live on forever in even PSP emulators lol that can play that same game the same fucking way. -

Show me one exmaple and you wont find one. ALl this shit is always hype and this is copyright infringment that may possibly be shut down soon anyway like that 3D chrono trigger project was.

That sounds like pretty much all the popular mario 64 romhacks. They are doing things with level geometry and modified assets that completely change the game.

2020-05-08 at 10:12 PM UTClol everyone knows all those rom hacks suck. thats why no one plays them and they get no coverage in any legit gaming media. even reas their reviews. there is one guy who makes them and most of them have shit mechanics and camera that pales to the original game. might as well just play the original over wnd over again as youd get a better experience or official nintendo mario games made since that i proved it not set it back in time with dick geometry or play official mario fan made levels controlled by nintndo in the mario maker games. but even those games are known to have shit levels compared to the ones nintendo made with them.

Some of them get millions of views.
Game developers do take notice of this stuff and they enjoy watching what people come up with. I don't give two fucks about what the mainstream media says or thinks about it.
I don't care about them, I do care about old school game developers though. Because when they notice that an old game is in the top category on twitch they don't just ignore it. Sometimes things happen like with battle for bikini bottom which was largely forgotten but because of the community it's getting a remake. The developers are even getting help from autistic speedrunners that know all the details about things and help make sure they don't miss anything, like the lesser known easter eggs and stuff.
Nintendo does pay attention to the scene, they are just so corporate that they don't really interact with the community directly. But there are a lot of rumors the popularity of the old mario games is gonna lead to them remaking them all for Switch

That's not really fair. The game was designed in such a way to give the illusion of a massive game with endless content. One of the main criticisms is that they made everything way too empty and big.
It is impressive but a giant world that takes forever to explore doesn't mean it's a good world filled with content. It's size is really the only thing going for it, which was cool when it came out but doesn't really hold up that well today.
