actually US is the bigger producer of food than china is, farming is a trillion dollar industry over there.

like i said, the world is currently producing enough food to feed 8 billion people, with that extra food for 1 billon meant for the US market so that americans, with their 300+ million population have twice the amount of food more than they need, so that they can indulge in over eating and food dumping.

People in the west have dogs and cats and like to feed the birds, and a little wasted food (yes, we do dump a lot) doesn't matter that much.

Meanwhile some areas of the world show no signs of slowing their breeding - their culture is big families.

How would us eating less help the situation long term?

food provides you with energy. lol.

but srsly, it takes huge amount of energies to make this much food readily and cheaply available.

human population growth was limited until the advent of fossil fuel fueled machines that provide plenty of energy to make food on a large scale like the kind we have today.

    the problem is wastage.

throwing food away means clearing lots of forests and burn lots of fossils and release lots of CO² all for nothing.
