    No they did not.
    They attempted to use pulleys to pull him out but the way he slid in there just wasnt any way to get any leverage.
    They wanted to break his legs and try to pull him out but he had been upside down too long and would have died of sepsis by that point even if it worked.
    
    When it came time to retrieve his dead body there still wasnt an easy solution and it was decided to just pour concrete in the hole to keep it from ever happening again.
    
    John jones had a 1 year old baby and another on the way.
    
    Sad.
    
    Movie was pretty good though.
