i don't think you can change your confidence once you've become confident. so, it must mean to others it's always going to be viewed as attitude. to me, that is bullshit. -

You’re intention could be totally honorable, but if you say something with too much confidence, they are not perceived as honorable. -

good point.
yes, i have been told it was attitude at a couple other shops where i was there to consult. but what is a consultant? someone who can troubleshoot and correct the issue. to me, that is a quality and a confidence in your abilities.
example:
unless it's CNC where someone programs and you work off the program, it will be manual machining. now grant it, you can take a print and have numbers for your x,y, and z positions so you can easily machine that. but to do profiles, patterns, compound fractures, and very specific details, you have to trig out these features.
so, when you're in a shop where no one knows what trig even is. it's real easy to see the immediate problem. and when you ask, "do you know trig," and you get back, "no." now you're thinking, "how the hell are you even qualified to be a machinist?'
and when you ask this, suddenly it's like a wall goes up and you have attitude.
well, my job is to fix a problem.
how can a problem be fixed if no one knows what is required to be doing their job to max potential.
how is that attitude to point out the obvious, when they can just learn trig?
and when they perceive that trig is something beyond them, why are you the bad guy for explaining machining and trig are a must partnership to be a real deal machinist?
i am there to find problems and fix them.
they know why i am there.
but they really are paying for hearing something they don't want to accept.
it really is difficult to have patience towards idiots!! -
