Because Jesus is the perfect man and righteous counterpart to the perfect man Adam who sinned. When Adam sinned, he took the whole world with him. The only reason we have a second chance is because Jesus, another perfect man, proved man can be righteous. Jesus is the sacrifice for us all, so that we may live. Without his sacrifice, none of us would escape punishment for Adam's rebellious act. We live through the sacrifice he made; that's what that scripture really means. He is the ransom sacrifice that makes our future possible. -
