I've been many many times to the hellholes that are the Texas department of criminal justice facilities…only as a visitor of course but that's hellish enough. 250 mile drive (500 round trip), 4hrs lining up in the Texas heat to get in and then a 2hr visit.
I did two semester's worth of practicums at St. Louis City Jail (the old one that was located at 124 So. 14th St.) back in the mid 70's. The first semester I worked with the social workers mostly interviewing inmates, etc. Met some real interesting characters. I think my favorite was the guy who robbed the City Police Dept. payroll. What a set of balls on that guy.
The second semester I worked with an ex-inmate working with him in a transactional analysis program. The ex-inmate leading the class always gave me the impression that he thought I was working with the "man" and sent there to spy on him rather than just being a college student.

Fear and respect are different things btw…threatening to shank someone because they don't respect you is about a childish as it gets…and again, you're asking them to fear you, not respect you.
This is one of the many reasons they fail as basic humans.
yep, and you'll always notice the people who go round making a big deal about others dissing them never seem to show much in the way of respect for others.
