Originally posted by Technologist I get that, it happens to people all the time. What about the words “social credit system”?
China is bringing in a 'social credit system' where people get a credit score based on their actions, ie. getting fined for littering reduces your score, doing volunteer work increases it etc. If your score is too low you won't be able to get loans (the main impetus for the system was that China doesn't have an equivalent to a bank credit check) or do other things that require a level of 'trust'.
Ever since it was announced certain people in the west have been shouting about how it's authoritarian and orwellian and etc. etc. etc. -

If they don’t have this type of system in place, then why announce this? Sounds like quite the undertaking. -

I couldn't have explained it that well.
Honestly, it sounds like a great idea, but I know it's going to be abused all to hell.
"Oh, it says on your social credit report that you did 500,000 hours working with the homeless last year, and that was in addition to your work saving over 6,000 orphans from burning buildings. You also sat on 14 different communist party committees and harvested over 1,000 tons of rice by hand. You're just the sort of person we need at ni hao university, welcome aboard." -
