Contrast use for an MRI is at the radiologist’s discretion. Certain exams DO NOT require contrast, some do, it depends on what they’re looking for. A lot of times they will do their scans, show the radiologist the images, then they decide if contrast is needed to visualize what they’re looking for. It’s been that way for a long time.
Can I still have MRIs after having a heart op? The wires they sew your chest back up with are metal, right?
I also have all that metal in my foot too lol -
2019-10-08 at 7:01 PM UTCIt depends on what the metal is in. If it’s your eye, no way, too gelatinous. In your bones, can be ok. Depends on the size of the prosthesis I imagine. I have staples in my gut from having my gallbladder removed, and metal anchors in my shoulder from rotator cuff surgery. I’ve had those in for all my MRIs.
A lot of what they use now is made of titanium, to try and avoid interference with MRIs -

My goal is to become at least 75% metal by the time I reach 75 -

You had a heart operation?
I had one as a kid but they went in below my shoulder blade and now I have a cool scar.
