    $75k+ now.

I'm still not sure about land. I can find a lot of acre in the desert for cheap but everything else is expensive.

    I've been contributing 50% to my 401k.

There is plenty of water in most desert areas. You just have to drill for it. Shut up before you start. I live in the desert.

Do you already own a house/property? If not, that should be your next investment. Don't pay rent to a third party when that money could be going toward a mortgage.

An acre out in the country won't do you any good if it just sits there. Find something you can live in until you're ready to retire rural. Bonus points if you can find a duplex and rent out one half while living in the other.

I get the water out of my well every time I turn on a faucet. That's how modern wells work. We don'y have to walk to the well like in your peasant village.
