Think I am going to get a Playstation 2

It's an amazing tv, I never owned one this good back in the day (though when I was little we had a huge 50 inch).
It has component and s-video inputs.
The colors are amazing (better than any HDTV I have owned) and with the component cables PS2 games look sugoku.
I was really blown away by just how amazing it was ... my friend's niece gave it to me, they thought I was weird for wanting an "old" tv.
  2. The nice thing about looking for a CRT now is they are dirt cheap, you can pick up great ones like Sony Trinitrons for $5-$10 at goodwill, in fact I read not so long ago that goodwill were stopping accepting them for donations because they had so many of the things.

If plugging in something literally made for the PS2 is too hard for you then you don't deserve to play the games.

Some of those hdtv and sdtv hybrids or the early hdtvs that were still fat are aresome. They give you the best of both worlds and systems like Gamecube just rock on them. Maybe thats the type of tv you have?

When the Trinitron tube started getting near perfect knock-offs?

You're literally willing to drop $500 on a PS3 that can play SOME PS2 games. It's not even full backwards compatible. The network adapter and an IDE hard drive will set you back about $15 and give you the full PS2 library, every console released before it via emulation, and most PS1 games are either natively compatible with P.O.P.S Starter or have special versions written for the more popular ones.

Fact of the matter is, while you're struggling to even find a backwards compatible PS3 for sale, I'll be over here enjoying the games.

In what world is a ps3 500 dollars? It's barely more expensive than a ps2, and it plays ps3 games as well.

I also said I MIGHT get one. I don't want your stupid network adapter shit. I have all the games I need.

No, CERTAIN PS3s can play PS2 games. Not all of them are backwards compatible.

Yeah good luck playing the games without a laser.

*Sony's network adapter. As in, actually manufactured and sold by them. Don't give me credit for something Sony themselves made and sold millions of.

yeah only the first (?) generation of PS3s were backwards compatible with PS2 games, they literally contained a PS2 chip as a coprocessor. on top of that they were notorious for heat issues so there aren't all that many of them left.

I'm not sure if they're going for as much as 500 but I wouldn't be surprised

Yeah you need either the 20 or 60 GB model phat PS3.

The 60GB is the gold standard because Sony said fuck it on emulation and just included the Graphics Synthesiser chip in the system, and it also has WiFi unlike the 20GB. So it was basically a PS3 with a PS2 taped to it.

If you softmod it you can play lots of games using emulation though, but it can be janky.

They sell for like 150. Not that much.

And besides that, I know someone with one, still working, who will give me a good price. Which is the only reason I even consider it over a ps2.

Basically just going to be for kingdom hearts and to load up my RPG maker game I made as a kid.

Just remember that 20 and 60 GB models are the only ones with PS2 BC. Watch out for YLOD or laser error, take a can of compressed air to the fans.
