   Is when someone disrespects you. Like when someone fuks your cell up or steals your entire canteen or leaves shit onyour bunk. Something thst is hlatant but when you were not there or gone and come baxk to it having to deal with it is the worse feeling in the world. Its like being slapped and having to figure out how to deal with the situation thereafter.

   I've heard a popular tactic is to blindside someone, drive the shank into their stomach/abdomen then literally reach in and use your hands to tear things out/rip the hole open

    No, usually you would only rely on the shank if you wanted me removed off the yard not just for stealing stuff. In that sense intimidation or fists are only usually used unless like I embarassed you badly.

    If you have a shank with you when you are going to "set the record straight" then you are going to use it. If your intent is just to have a round of fisticuffs you'll leave the shank in it's hiding place for when you do truly need it. Going to a fight with a shank and not intending to use it would be incredibly stupid as if you had the fight and then the guards found the shank on you, you'd be in a world of trouble over and above the simple fight.

    Yet prison gang members walk around yards with shanks all the time for no reason and even have them in cells more than one when all they need is one hidden at most for added chances of being caught dont they? Plus look at gang memebrs on street, You always see how they get arrested for felon with posession of a gun but hardly ever use those guns especially white criminals who usually are only part of crews not gangs and never do drive bys,.
