I have been following this since before most of the posters here were born. The people want their choice back. None of you here recall what Iran was like before the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Here is an example of the difference.

There are many people alive in Iran today who remember when they had the choices they had before and they want that life for the children and grandchildren. If the tyrants have no money they have no power. Without their power the people will rise against them not in support of them.

Yeah, that worked so well in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen.
It doesn't matter whether Iran decides to attack the US directly or not. An attack on a regional power of that magnitude will throw the Middle East into chaos, regardless of strategies or tactics used, which will further accelerate the US collapse.
If we're talking about specific capabilities, Iran itself will throw hypersonic anti-ship missiles at carriers and other high-value targets across the middle-east, as well as mobilising Hezbullah and saturation-bombing israel with conventional rockets. israel has no hope of deflecting a determined attack given their 'Iron Dome' is only able to deflect around 5% of rockets (made out of bike parts and propane tanks) every time they go on a Gaza excursion and the much-vaunted 'David's Sling' failed miserably when they tried to intimidate Russian diplomats with it, and their ground forces are in a dire state.
This leads me to believe that like the US, they will be quick to turn to nuclear weapons (US threshold has been lowered several times in the last few years in light of their handicap in next-gen missile tech) which will destroy the MAD doctrine and have extremely unpredictable effects both short and long-term -

2019-06-21 at 10:30 AM UTCI don't think there was ever really a strike planned - they simply want to give the impression that they're both 'tough' and 'restrained', because they no longer have any non-military tools to use and an actual military response will escalate and spiral out of control very rapidly.

2019-06-21 at 10:53 AM UTCThe first step would be to withdraw the bulk of the CSG from the Gulf of Oman where they're currently sitting - if an attack is to occur they will first want to use standoff missiles and high altitude airstrikes from outside the range of Iran's coastal batteries before moving in for standard aircraft and troop deployment.
So keep an eye on the Abraham Lincoln I guess. -
