2019-03-24 at 3:12 AM UTCLol match heads don't have phosphorus it was a meme bro!
They had an episode on myth busters where they ordered an entire pallet of books of matches and chopped the heads of 10,000 matches with a paper cutter. I don't know what they did with the books/strikers but thats where the red P is.
The actual way to get red p is very labor intensive and involves using tin snips to cut the striker strips of a few thousand books of matches and using various chemical and mechanical treatment to liberate the phosphorus from the strips

Birch is a cold cook so it can be done without electricity or a hotplate, rp/i you need to reflux/boil. people tend to go with whatever method is easiest for them to get precursors for.
There is also another way to obtain phosphorus that isn't well known, it involves the use of potassium phosphite (not phosPHATE) fertilizer to be converted into phosphorous acid H3PO3 which can be used in place of red phosphorus

Ah ok, makes sense.
I noticed that stupid noob (and he's got quite a long-standing reputation in the clandestine chem community) around here is pretty fervently pro-RP/I and anti-Birch for some reason.
I often wondered what criteria one would use to make such a value judgment.
Is quality of the yield at all different? (Assuming the same degree of professionality and lab procedure went into both). -
2019-03-24 at 3:27 AM UTCHe probably just hates shake and bake. I don't see either of the methods having many benefits over the other, they both have precursors that are a bitch to get in large amounts (making your own anhydrous and fucking with striker strips), I think rp/i actually has worse yields and requires extra steps like steam distillation
I believe birch has shorter cook times but there are issues with the smell, ammonia stinks really bad. Both of the reactions are over 50 years old, they are pretty archaic by today's standards.
Maybe he's against it for safety reasons, anhydrous ammonia is pretty dangerous stuff.

Weak people shouldn't do drugs.
Not traditional pure 100% heroin. Modern China White is really furanyl fentanyl. A match head of traditional 100% pure heroin will kill you dead, don't matter who you are or what tolerance you have. -

Oh man yeah anhydrous ammonia can do some serious damage. Ever since I started looking into the Birch method I've been seeing all kinds of references to how much damage it can do.
And I can only imagine that shake and bake would be like Russian roulette with a rocket launcher.
But as long as safety precautions are taken into consideration, it seems that Birch is pretty feasible, just as long as you have lots of ventilation and all that.
Also, are there devices out there that can detect specific chemicals in the atmosphere? It might be overkill, but if you could have something set up to detect any leaking ammonia gas and immediately shut off all valves and sound some kind of alarm, that might be life saving. -

Classic China White is.. well, white. -
