I've been in the hole for very long periods. 24-hour lockup. You have a square cut into the floor which has two swinging flaps on it, which can only be flushed by the guards outside the cell. No toilet paper, no blanket, no mattress, no books, no writing implements, no clothes, not even a bible, just an 8'x 6' concrete square with a metal slab sticking out of the wall. Then they leave the super bright florescent lights on 24/7, so they go right through your eyelids, so you're basically sleeping with bright lights glaring in your eyes all night, every night. And they kill the heat, so most nights are below zero. No visitors or phone calls allowed either. The food is a small, square mash of crushed vegetables in a gelatin, three times a day, seven days a week. After a few months in there, you start talking to yourself.

I read readyplayerone when I was in solitary, it was a wholesome experience.
