What's "your drink"?

  1. #21
A man walks into a bar. The bartender asks him "what'll ya have". The man replies "whatever you fuckin' have". The bartender pauses a moment, stares at the man, and then asks "yeah, but what do you actually want? We got stuff to make whatever". The man stands there, paralyzed, he only wants what they have but in the headlights of such selection he is frozen. The bar is only a few hundred square feet and yet behind the bar they seem to have packed a vast ocean of liquor. The man's mind races as the combinatorial problem quietly mounts in the corner. A long moment passes and the bartender remains, waiting to take the man's order. Then, all of the sudden, something seems to click in the man's mind. Drenched in sweat, trembling slightly from the effort he realizes. He reaches slowly for his wallet, contorting his face as if about to place his order and then bolts for the door. The problem is intractable he realizes, he wants, no yearns, for whatever they have but in all the vast strings in the english language he can not summon a one to aid him. So realizing the futility of his endeavor he does the only thing he can: he flees the scene of the crime, never to return. "This is hell he thinks", but with the exertion of his mad dash for the door comes a certain clarity. He realizes in that crystalline moment "but it should never have been otherwise".

I used to really like sweet drinks, and sweet things in general. Rum and coke was the first thing I drank regularly. The sugar isn't great for you though, makes the hangover worse, and it's harder to overdrink with like a straight rye or something. Still, my go-to drinks are mostly gins with something mildly sweet.

Artificial sweeteners. NAC should be a staple of any regular drinker, along with milk thistle and coffee (I just scoop a teaspoon into my mouth of Kroger's store brand instant decaf) for a powerful liver protectant combo.

I think I'm done with alcohol. Wine can have an interesting taste and be a hobby. Modifying the flavor profile. Never got around to looking into something that could neutralize (react with) tannins and didn't generate something harmful or would negatively effect the flavor profile. Acidity would be a lot of easier to handle. Excessive oak taste seems unlikely to find a solution. And hyperdecanting was a nice technique to find.

    I won't miss it, though.

Do you drink bailey's straight? I mean I like the taste of it but I've never actually seen anyone not mix it with something.
I drink both baileys and vodka straight but most of the stuff I've heard say that yeah you drink it with something else, irish coffee for instance but like i said I'm poor so I can't afford to mix.
I'll say that it has a nice taste to it though, especially the variants of it, biscotti, and chocolate baileys are pretty nice, I mean it's alcoholic cream, what's not to like?

    Cement mixer:
    One part baileys
    One part lime juice

I like the chemistry behind Baileys, like why it has to be in opaque bottles.

I don't think I've had a "drink" as in hard liquor for well over a year now. Even when I was drunk nearly everyday all I drank was Budweiser. I suppose going from my last recollection I was pretty sold on Jim Beam whiskey sours. Before that plain jane jack and cokes. My mom hardly drinks if she does it some snob-esque wine and my dad is a drug addict so he rarely drinks either.

Though I guess to correlate my propensity to drinking to relatives I was raised by my grandparents who were both hardcore alcoholics who drank mixed Canadian Club and coke in ungodly amounts. I suppose this allowed me to succeed in obtaining and keeping a steady supply of alcohol from a young age but I don't feel I was otherwise influenced by their drink of choice.
