Where? Bump instead of complaining in unrelated threads. Sometimes you just miss a post. Also I'm a little skeptical of this self-assertion of "winning".

But let's say this is a 100% correct assessment of the situation: I never give up on an argument and will simply ignore points that spell certain defeat for me. Just a totally intellectually dishonest douchebag who won't pass up any chance to use dirty rhetorical tricks. Does that make this a productive intelligent reaction:

Like who the fuck cares about the intricate points of what some 15th century dumbass said about existentialism? What matters is the fact that you can feel in your soul the emptiness and lack of any sort of meaning in life. That's understanding. You don't need to take a philosophy minor for that feeling to have a profound effect on the way you see things.

I have no doubt Malice has an adequate enough understanding of existentialism to comment on it intelligently. You however seem to be implying that he (and probably everyone else here, as I'm pretty sure none of us have read more philosophy than you have) isn't qualified to engage in debate with someone like you that is so highly educated on the matter.

More generally, it's fucking stupid when people say things like LOL NIHILISM ISN'T ACTUALLY ABOUT NEGATIVITY ITS ABOUT FREEING URSELF or YOU DONT KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT EXISTENTIALISM TO BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE THAT DREAD IN YOUR STOMACH ACCURATELY ENOUGH. Philosophy is just ideas about something that in the vast majority of cases (probably all) is literally impossible to test, meaning a fuck ton of it is going to be wrong, and therefore garbage. Assigning a bunch of esoteric sounding words to human feeling doesn't make you any better or more qualified than any other introvert to tell them about how things are.

Thank god you noticed it and stated it as well.

Lanny is one of the most annoying and infuriating people to attempt to have a conversation with, let alone a discussion, I have ever met online (Of course there's a selection bias, only participating in certain communities, ignoring most members, so it's not like he's all that bad compared to most people). Yes, he's highly intelligent and knowledgeable, but I swear, it's like he has something worse than autism.

Transcendental autism. Something in his brain/mind must have transcended autism and gone a level beyond, taken a different form, where it's no longer clinically detectable.

No, I'm not serious about the autism, but everything before that is absolutely true.

    Rust was awful too.

He was great at tearing apart idiotic arguments that deserved to be torn apart, but he was still insufferable. Most of the people and arguments he dealt with were so utterly moronic they weren't even worth reading, he completely wasted his time doing something he likely didn't even enjoy. This is a common trait among adherents to Marxism.

No, I'm not kidding, there actually is good data out there on personality correlates and political ideology, and it's a very strong effect. Marx himself was consistently described as insufferable by his acquaintances.

Drink the hemlock, Lanny, like he chose to. One day you may be driven to that point as well.

Alcohol is your hemlock, it's simply a much slower death.

Do you agree with Nietzsche's position here?

Honestly, if you don't take Nietzsche seriously he was pretty fucking funny as a philosopher, in a way. You could see him as a professional roaster or critic that just gets hilariously pissed off at some of the finest figures in philosophy and concepts within the subject and goes on these absurd polemical diatribes. His own personal ideology and personality go very well with it.

I didn't bring it up because I necessarily agreed with it. I would say, no, he likely greatly misrepresents things, but I don't know what his motivation behind writing the book, particularly that section, was.

Socrates could actually be a good user title for you.

As to alcohol being your hemlock, there's far more that could be written on this. You could get your own personal thread on this one day, it would be a worthy subject. It really is a good analogy, there's so much about society and others that drives some people toward alcoholism, almost compels them to drink in order for reality to be bearable, to continue to exist and be able to bear the burden.

Do you remember this old quote by me? "Alcoholism is the mark of having grasped/realized the horrors and inadequacy of life." Not sure if grasped or realized works better, I usually don't fixate on small matters like this. I think I prefer grasped, you really need to fully comprehend it, not merely come to a realization, as in some superficial acceptance without deeper understanding, to become a true alcoholic and remain that way throughout your life.

Hey, you know what would have been good as a spinoff manga, with the strong possibility of an anime as well, of course,? If the author of Death Note had created a story where it isn't a Kira vs. L type of scenarios, but essentially two Kiras with opposing ideals. They're both willing to kill countless people and anyone who gets in their way, become tyrannical authoritarian rulers of the earth, but they have vastly different means, ends in mind, and radically different ideologies, visions of what their perfect world would look like.

It's pretty obvious, shame it wasn't done.

lanny unironically considers disagreeing with his affections to be mental illness. not even his (graciously speaking) ideas. just what he thinks is cool or sexy. he's a pseud twerp who has no actual interest outside of fashion. by fashion i mean fashionable attitudes etc. pure cancer.

its not unsurprising considering that he gets his rocks off being the moderator-by-accident of a den of scum whose only opportunity to ever feel primacy in anything in life is to indulge in masturbatory anti-intellectual posturing, the rhetorical art of which they became talented through a life-long devotion to avoiding consideration of who they are.

and that is why people get so triggered here when you don't take them seriously. it's the most brutally accurate and warranted response to the sort of drivel which is the main currency of filler/content people find here. facebook culture is superior and more intelligent.

I really find it amazing, and incredibly unfortunate, that so many brilliant people never seem to properly question whether life itself is something positive.
