its quite the quandary about mutual respect and compassion, you can have that in a relationship but sometimes its not what you figured it would be on both sides until its too late. Thats something I especially noticed with my ex gf, who I cared about a lot, and I never felt like I got cucked / cheated on like OP obviously went through but still, I felt a discord and where we weren't both meeting each other half way when we thought we were.. Some have respect for each other and even love and common interest, like hanging out but so different at the same time.
It defintely does take two to tango though, and sometimes I believe before its too late you can change the expectation of the relationship, unfortunately you can't have everything, even millionaires get cheated on all the time.

lol though one time my ex gf called the cops and she removed her stuff from my place and I was like "well I guess thats it.." and just left it alone and got an email from her a week later saying she wishes she could see me again and hang out, so I literally drove to her place and just walked in unannounced with her roomies there at the middle of the night when I saw the text and just went in and she was so surprised to see me and started hugging on me and I fucked her brains out.
