   An adult murdering an adult is different because the victim presumably had a fighting chance or deserved it for some reason. Kids meet neither of these criteria.

   Evolution. There's a good reason cultures generally cherish children and hold them in high regard. For most of human history sheer numbers is what decided which tribes lived, and passed on their genes, and which died out. Certainly not saying it's just, merely that there are powerful biological forces that lead to such immense biases.

   As for having a "fighting chance", how do you determine this? Most people don't even have a real fighting chance, and regardless of probability, it doesn't change the fact that a certain outcome still lead to death.
