   It’s more like he made a request, a literal quid pro quo (which has been proven through testimony by those with direct knowledge), for the Ukrainian government to launch a personally beneficial investigation into his political opponent, in return for things that Ukraine wanted. And if they didn’t do what he asked for, they would not get those things

    There was no joking about it. Trump directed Rudy Giuliani to work with Gordon Sondland, the US ambassador to the EU, to coordinate the quid pro quo with Ukraine. Sondland, a Trump donor and Trump appointee, literally testified to this in front of Congress on national tv

    Even if there was any legitimate basis for Trump to request the Biden investigation, which is a dubious proposition at best, there is literally no justifiable reason to tie that request to releasing the aid, giving Zelensky a White House meeting, etc.
