Yes I'm mounting it to an M305 receiver. Gonna sell of the rest of my guns. This is the only one I need for hunting, plinking, etc.
M305 receiver is legal in Canada, as it was built as a semi auto. M14 receivers are illegal as they were built as full auto.
Hence I'll get the closest thing to a real M14 rifle you can legally own in either US or Canada. -

Why the 30-06 preference? 308 has practically same performance as 30-06 in a smaller package. Benelli makes semis in 30-06 too. FN is making some new BARs which look sweet, called the FNAR. -

It's so verstaile of a round. You can go from 100gr for the wife and kids all the way up to 220gr, depending on the shooter's preference and what the intended purpose is. From longer or shorter range target shooting or hunting, and whether you're killing a coyote or a decent sized bear, which is nice that you don't have to buy a whole new gun for whatever you're doing. -

The .308 is just as versatile and can also load up to 220 grain if you handload and I've seen them down to 110 grain. The US army ditched 30-06 in favour of .308 for some reasons. Standardizing NATO being the primary one. Second is it's more reliable in automatic weapons due to the shorter length. Third it has less recoil while retaining more or less the same ballistics. 308 was the replacement for the 30-06, why go with an outdated standard? -
2020-01-16 at 1:45 AM UTCI believe the 30-06 has some more oomph behind it velocity wise (just a bit), and you can shove more powder in there if you really want to.
But the two mains I see are 1. If you ever want an M1 like me (don't know if I ever will), and 2. The 308 is gonna get gobbled up much quicker than the 06 when shortages arrive as we saw with sandy hook and whatnot. But they're essentially about the same these days. The differences are are really really minute. -
