2020-01-06 at 4:59 AM UTCAs an aside, I'm seeing a lot of people on twitter referring to 'Erd🍉gan' which is the funniest thing ever

Originally posted by aldra Their missile tech and numbers are far superior. They have decent AA capabilities but not enough to stop a determined air campaign - attackers will take casualties though. That's without taking foreign militias like Hez into account.
What I mean is that the US will not be able to 'break' Iran with air power alone, and they're not going to win a ground war no matter how much the target's been 'softened up'.
to concentrate these AA on straits of homoz is one thing, to cover the entire country is another.
i dont know what you defines as 'break' but i think the entire country would collapse or almost collapse if the US bomb the shit out of their infrastructure like oil, electricity and water plants with drones or strategic bombers. -

if i can draw i'd draw a cartoon of trump/nato with thier dick/base in a glory hole with edrogan/turkey on the otherside. -

2020-01-06 at 3:09 PM UTCTrump theatening to bomb cultural sites is surely going to cause a huge stir across the middle east. Like WTF?
-
2020-01-06 at 5:27 PM UTCYeah this mightve cost Trump my vote. The last thing muslims need is a reason to come together to hate america.

It's what ISIS was known for - destroying UNESCO sites as they were not Islamic. Iran has a lot of history there. Zoroastrianism etc. Newroz is a holiday still celebrated widely even though it is quasi illegal.
Iranian and Syrian and Hezbollah and Houthi propaganda says America is ISIS, America is Al Qaeda.
By driving these very obvious similarities together, and threatening to do what ISIS is renowned for doing, he is planting the thought in the minds of the public that America really are barbaric head choppers just like their local government claims.
So the local governments were using these allegations to incite opposition to America. America is encouraging these beliefs to invoke fear to reduce opposition to America.
That is a clear psyop.
This is how public diplomacy works. It is designed to affect the mind of Joe Public. -

the threats of lunacy must be follow uped with the acts of lunacy. -
2020-01-06 at 6:30 PM UTCEssentially Donald Trump just used terrorism.
Violence/threats of violence to achieve political goals.
Cultural sites are not even military targets, this is going to scare the general public.
It is also what ISIS was known for doing. And governments opposed to America state America funds, trains and fights with ISIS.
He is using confirmation bias. This is a very unethical thing to do to innocent people. -

What's I find the most ironic is they do all these things because of "what the people will think", and yet the reality is they don't care what the people think at all, and they will just do whatever they want no matter what the people think. And they're so arrogant and corrupt to the core they themselves don't even realize this. -

It's a parameter to the equation. All parameters must be allocated resources, the level of allocation depends on the effect it has on the operation.
The minds of the people are needed for post war stability.
If the CIA is making statements like this, you can assume there is no planned occupation at the cessation of any hostilities, if there ends up being a war in Iran. -

Well they're not trying to appeal to the hearts and minds of Iranians.
There could be many reasons for that. They could even have a secret agreement with Iran to not destabalise the political allegiance of Iranian civilians and there will be no war.
Or it could be they do not plan on occupying Iran after a war.
All public information is public diplomacy. -
2020-01-07 at 3:44 AM UTCThe US benefits way too much. When the sunnis are stronger, they support the shiites. When the shiites are stronger, they support the sunnis. It's in the best interest of the US to keep a low key conflict over the middle east.

2020-01-07 at 3:49 AM UTC1. The Mahdi Army has been ordered to re-mobilize, and there are hints that their people still occupy significant positions in the regular military.
2. There was an official US military note to the Iraqi government acquiescing to the order for their military to leave, but it turns out this was an internal draft that's apparently embarrassed leadership into saying 'we are not committed to leaving'. Officially forces are being moved and 're-structured', with all training and active duty operations on hold. -
2020-01-07 at 3:57 AM UTCAlso there's talk that US military assets will be moved to Kurdish-held areas but I doubt this because
1. The Kurds are still hurting from getting left to Turkey in Syria
2. Iran will not allow a US military buildup that close to the border -
2020-01-07 at 3:59 AM UTCTrump has single handedly manage to help unite the 3 main warring sects. This is going to make it much more difficult to operate and put more lives at risk.
