    When I buy a whiskey it's got it's own distinct flavor. Is it woodsy? Is it sweet? Does it taste oddly of vanilla, or cinnamon? Is it Irish? Malt. Bourbon? Rye? Blended? There's a reason people are whiskey aficionados but not so many (if any at all?) are vodka aficionados. The mash, barrel, and aging all have a profound effect on the end product.
    
    If I were going to buy vodka, I would buy the second cheapest bottle, which is a handle of Skol. It comes out to about 15 after tax, and tastes exactly the same as Stolichnaya.

    Nah some vodka is trash and terrible to drink straight. I tend to go with European vodkas, specifically Scandinavian I never have a problem drinking that straight

    You buy a whiskey its got its own impurities which give it a murky brown appearance. Is it rancid? It is rusty? Does it taste oddly like cow dung, or urine? Is it Nigerian? Sweat? Garbage juices? Theres a reason why people are ethanol aficionados but not so much are pure product aficionados. The mash, barrel, and aging all have a profound effect on the end products purity.

    Alcohol chemistry is interesting i think it's neat how bad wine will wreak havoc on your body because of all the compounds in it.
    
    It's like dirty meth. Whiskey is like that batch I got where they had to hide an ounce in a tide detergent so they sold it at a discount and I didn't like smoking it because I kept smelling detergent so i would only snort it.

    Except that's not what they use to make whiskey. It can't go rancid, or rusty, and they don't put dung, urine, sweat, or garbage juice in there. Maybe in Russia that is the case, which is why everybody drinks vodka, but in the civilized world of the Americas this is not a problem.
    
    There's a reason vodka is literally the cheapest alcohol you can buy. It's because it's also the shittiest.
