You're somewhat right, and that's the problem. Paying rent shouldn't make it legally yours, just give you legal right to occupy the space, because the fact of the matter is it ISN'T yours. If somebody gets hurt there YOU don't get sued. If the roof blows off YOU aren't responsible. Unless YOU are the sole person responsible for the maintenance YOU shouldn't be considered shit but a renter.
Angry slumlord detected. I will smear shit on your walls and you will like it AND replace it. After, you'll suck my dick.
Sound good? -

In my state you can even legally shoot and kill someone if you're sitting in your car and they try to bust into it. Same rules as your house. You can break into a house at night time with no weapon at all and the homeowner gets to shoot you legally. -

Looks good on paper, but in reality, the prison industrial complex needs to be kept well fed. -

Not a landlord, and the fact I would want my property pristine would make me the opposite of a slumlord. Furthermore, let's say you were the tenant and you DID damage property; everything that isn't covered by your security deposit would then be garnished from your wages or taken out of your state tax return, so not only will you pay for the damages, you'll pay for the most expensive jack ass I can find to fix something I could have painted over for $15. -

Not how it works. Tenants don't just get free reign to destroy shit.
