If we ever came into contact with other intelligent life in the universe we'd have to significantly revise our standard perceptions of intelligence and for communication. There's no guarantee they would understand how we operate on any level or vice versa.

I actually spoke to aliens once about 10 years ago. They said they were monitoring the earth and I was one of their chosen subjects to study. They said they wouldn't directly interfere in my life but they would always make sure I was ok and things work out at least not for the bad.
Now, whether this truly happened I can't be 100% sure, but since then I haven't died even tho I'm sure there are times I should have and everything that's happened to me has worked out ok in the end, at least a neutral ending. So who knows, maybe I am blessed with alien guardian angels
