It's similar to HPV - one of those things where a micro-organism that is supposed to be natural and endemic is also associated with problems, so you are wondering "how does that work".
And it's clear that it isn't quite understood yet how it works, but no one will admit that.
All I know is that I am itchy.

Oregano oil works, equal parts oregano oil and olive oil. It'll sting like a bitch for the first few minutes and you'll temporarily look like you were doused with boiling water, but the next day you'll look younger than normal.
The downside is that you have to apply it every day until you're cured.
It also evaporates easily, so it's not cost effective unless you do what that black girl did and put plastic over it to stop it evaporating. It's more than likely some type of candida which can eventually kill you if it becomes systemic, but most doctors won't know that you died from candida and they'll likely put it down to something else.
Taking the oregano or other natural antifungals internally can help too, but if it's mostly just the skin then topical should fix it.

I had one of these same kind of infections right behind my right ear. Behind the ears is where yeast commonly attacks, any part where humidity can be trapped really.
I'd scratch it every day till it got worse and worse, and I'd remove a layer of crust and flakes each day, and each morning there's be a new layer of crust and flakes. It's amazing how fast it came back.
I knew I had to do something about it so I used the oregano/olive oil mixture and within a couple weeks it was completely cured. But it's very painful like I said. Normal healthy skin shouldn't really do a lot when exposed to this mixture, but if it's infected, it'll flake up even more, with larger flakes till the point where it's like a snake shedding its skin and eventually it'll just stop flaking at all and go back to being smooth.
Doctors really are shitty when it comes to this sort of thing. We discussed this on zoklet a bit. One thing communist countries have going for them is they have a large supply of anti-fungal medications rather than just antibiotics.

I got some oregano oil pills today, so I am taking them + peppermint oil + selenium.
I also got some oregano and some peppermint oils today, so I'll sprinkle some on my bed when I go asleep. I remember finding that they helped.
I am also using 3 different anti-dandruff shampoos and rubbing down with anti-fungal cream afterwards.
I'll also look at my diet and ways to eat healthier.
I spent a fortune on supplies today, but it should be gone soon.
