Government agencies will be compelled to adopt Hanyu Pinyin, a Chinese Romanization system developed by the People’s Republic of China, Chen Hsuch-yu (陳雪玉), executive-secretary and senior inspector of the ministry’s National Languages Committee (NLC), said in a telephone interview.
While the public will be widely encouraged to use the system, individual preferences on which Romanization system to use will be respected when it comes to personal matters such as the spelling of their surnames, Chen said.
It's not just 'for chinese tourists' you dumb fuck. Pinyin is taught in schools. It is used for road signs. It's de facto what the government uses, and is the official romanization of all Chinese speaking nations. It's understood by any Taiwanese person who has gone to school in at least the last 20 years. Most schools already taught it without the government mandating it, because it's useful and prepares Taiwanese people for literacy outside of Taiwan. That's why they were able to adopt to tongyong pinyin so quickly, and leave it for pinyin just as soon, without too much of a fuss.
I mean you're arguing that KMT is not standard pinyin but it's just a grandfathered name since the party is over 100 years old. Like I said earlier, some proper nouns like names/places/businesses use the old, outdated systems simply to retain their part of history. It's not like they actually use it. KMT is the party who made pinyin the official standard anyway.

They use it in all official capacity. It is taught in schools. My friend is a science teacher in Taiwan. Born and raised. I ate dinner with his family. Public schools there have all adopted pinyin, and even for a long time before that they just used tongyong pinyin.
Nevermind the fact that your initial argument was about them using a different ROMANIZATION system, and then hilariously referenced wade giles which has not been in use for a good 20-30 years. They do use zhuyin, which is not a romanization system.
It's okay though. No shame in being wrong, chinky boy. Maybe if you opened your eyes a little more vertical you'd be able to read the articles and sources I've been posting instead of scanning them one line at a time like a typewriter. -
