I have no understanding of this.

I mean it's strange you have to change an acronym because it only mirrors the name of another.

I got myself in a major situation

I'm so broke and I just spent 900 dollars then 300 paying down a credit card. I can't use a credit card to make a car payment and my 150 in insurance premium with a following 170 in the Verizon phone bill

it's not so much that as Turkey claims the PKK is a terrorist organisation, which you can argue as to whether they're justified or not but they certainly have done a terrorism on many occasions, and the US wanted to use them as a proxy but also wanted to convince Turkey they were some other Kurds.

it's pretty similar to how Al-Nusra and pals changed their names so many times; every time they got caught doing a terrorism they changed names so that they could keep receiving US weapons because now they're completely different moderate rebels!

Apparently Russia has brokered an agreement between the Syrian Government and the Turks - the SAA will force the YPG and assorted Kurdish militias to pull back at least 30km from the border and eventually either disarm or absorb them.

In return Turkey has halted all operations EXCEPT for in the rough zone I highlighted, and I'm curious why they still insist on operating there.

Why does russia have a stake in this, is it just to prevent Turkey from getting to cocky?

Also, is it true that turkey was gearing up to to assualt kurdland whether or not the US was there? If so, then the only rational option was to pull out

    1. Syria and Iran are longtime Russian allies; their economies to some degree are codependent. Russia initially entered the war both because of that and because they saw that bulldozing Syria was the next step in clearing a path to Iran and another major war.

    2. Yes, I don't think Erdogan was bluffing. He considers the PKK/YPG a serious threat to Turkish sovereignty and would not allow them to establish military bases on the Turkish border, even if they were ostensibly under the command of the US. Option 1 was get out early, option 2 was wait until Turkey actually attacked and then get out, option 3 was fight Turkey. Option 4 was call Erdogan's bluff but that wasn't really an option.

Trump took the path that was likely to cause the least embarrassment to the US but he did it poorly. It really should've been a slower withdrawal that supported the 'SDF's rapprochement with the SAA and/or their exit from Syria. He could've been seen as a diplomat and peacemaker (though probably not in the eyes of the US media) if he participated in negotiations to grant the Kurdish regions greater autonomy in exchange for their military support, for example.

Syria and Iran both seem so poor, I wonder what their actual economies are (besides oil)

Iran's doing pretty well given they've been under various sanctions and trade embargoes for like 60 years

they are reaching a point where they need significant economic growth to support their growing and aging population though

There's something about Persians that causes them to gravitate towards the sciences. Every young Persian woman I meet is going into biotechnology or pharmaceutical science or something very specialized I have little understanding of. They also steal American beauty secrets and make their own brands. They have a bicameral legislative system where things have to be approved by the clerics and tbh there are some parts of Shia Islam that seem a little unnecessary and superstitious but Persians are smart enough to make their own nukes even if no one gave them the tech for it.

Also, Lebanon's turning up rn but I doubt much will change. Lebanese do so great whenever they get off the Levant but back home they're entrenched in misery

(banned) this isnt confined to the mid east anymore. the three biggest kids on the block…US, russia, and china…are taking their proxy wars global.

ukraine has been in a full-blown war with russia while the west is providing 'aid' since 2014 and i see nary a mention in the mainstream media.

that thing in hong kong isnt a protest. thats a west-vs-china attempt at overthrowing the slant eyed jews and kicking out their influence.

im finding it somewhat humorous that the shithole rodeo in chile isnt getting more mainstream media attention.

france…venezuela…pakistan, hell, half the planet is burning.

    dont forget cataloonia.

Besides Chile this is all in this state sponsored Russian playbook. This and US election/Brexit interference.

    oh yea, i forgot.

i didnt mean the troops withdrawal, i mean what you think of trump's policy of global retreat ?

is 'america first' better served by having US troops all over the world or none at all ?
