in theory beneficial but overall a waste of time to become knowledgeable of, and is more for bragging rights/appearing intelligent/the fun of learning than for its actual usefulness. there may be a few circumstances where there's a reason to use an alternative OS, but i dont think these situations occur outside of a specialist's interests. -

Yeah, except you can actually get a job doing the things i actively try to learn. Not only that, knowing how to script makes your life a lot easier if you use the computer a lot in any sort of meaningful way.

2017-01-13 at 4:28 AM UTCwhat is it that you don't like about virtualbox?

Nothing in particular, i am just used to VM. -
2017-01-13 at 4:35 AM UTCfair enough. I mostly just like that it's free and open, reasonably well maintained etc..
it's nice that it's modular too, being able to convert to/from most VHD formats and easily scripted for things like Vagrant - if you get into any sort of dev work hat requires different environments you'll probably end up using it -
2017-01-13 at 4:40 AM UTCI always use virtualbox at work. I don't really have any domain knowledge about virtualization, I just use it for testing software on different platforms, but so far it's done everything I've needed it to.
Also a former professor was an engineer on virtualbox 1.0, although I wouldn't use it out of school loyalty or anything like that. -

Besides that, Backbox comes with a decent amount of auditing tools, all you ever need really, except for Commix. But it's little trouble to download the things that are missing.

To be honest i am not exactly a Linux Guru, so i never had the pleasure of doing a LFS, but i probably should at some point. Just for the learning experience. Run it in VM.
I am brocolli, chololite, call me reeses can't catch me without the pieces.
My bad, I don't know what the hell a backbox is, but I remember this red thing released in 2006, that was like the coolest man.
And I guess now there are a hundred "hacker os's" but all in all Kali is debian with whistles, backtrack is knoppix, and those are just gnu/linux/stuff. This is like the difference between DebKit and DebianKit. Too many similar names.
I don't understand the mindset, pull up on some LFS, or Gentoo and learn about how the Linux system works. Linus Torvalds wrote it as a hobby, and it is an interesting project thus far. IT is interesting the history of changes like init, systemd, etc and how a system works.
Arch allows this, and offers great documentation, but LFS allows you a more in depth knowledge.

ACK! That's bullshit. UDP is one true way, the all powerful and all knowing, the fallen angel of L4 protocols. -
