   I remember when Rand Paul grilled the crap out of Hilary Clinton which was really fun viewing and then at the end he asked her if she knew anything about running guns to Turkey and scoffed and acted like she'd never heard anything about it. I wonder if what spectral said is related to that.
   
   Anyway, how worthless does Turkey military have to be if 1000 US soldiers is enough to keep them from invading another country? I understand that them being from the US means they're "off limits" of sorts, but still, that's pretty weak.

   It's more that the US are a snake you don't want to step on, they've enough arty, troops and air that they can steamroll a country, Iraq was fucked in a month and a half.

   What Spectral posted was news to me, I was aware of (and believed) the rumours at the time, and have common sense, but I didn't realise it was "known" known.
   
   Also US troops don't get deployed for any other reason than if they get chewed up by an enemy then public opinion can be swung against whoever is blamed. For instance the US barrier forces in South Korea are expected to be killed by North Korean artillery, but by dying the US public can be brought on side by the atrocity.
   
   Same reason why part of the US fleet was left sitting in Pearl Harbour on December 7th 1941, when the US knew an attack was imminent.

   Yes I know this, I was wondering if there was any other reason. They could have probably brought 500 home with no difference made, although it doesn't really matter when it comes to cost anyway I'm sure. I think it's about time we stop playing babysitter over there and let them do their things, although I do not care for airdoowan.
