Death as a deterrent would definitely prevent some people from doing so, but also incentivize others to kill the child. It's a slippery slope and some people have to die along the way.

Do you mean murder rate?
Murder is also a visceral thing but there are more factors at play when it comes to dropping a body than the deterrent.
