MANPADs For All

Access to MANPADs more than any other weapons system should be directly protected by the Second Amendment.

    1. The core purpose of the Second Amendment is as a bulwark against A) a tyrannical government or B) an occupying force. The US military is utterly dependent on air superiority to fight wars, and it stands to reason that air support would be just as critical for the state to fight large-scale uprisings. Any occupying force would ostensibly have to rely on air superiority as well given the size of the US and what would be required to wrest control from the current state.

    2. As a result, the proliferation of portable, concealable (from radar and satellite) and effective anti-aircraft weapons would be crucial to narrowing the gap between civilian and state military capabilities, perhaps more than any other weapon.

    3. The cost of losing even a few jets or high-end drones to civilian anti-air attacks would be crippling enough to force the 'oppressor' to completely rethink deploying air power in areas where MANPAD units are known to operate. Which could be anywhere.

    4. Under most circumstances, MANPADs have significantly less lethal potential than small arms; ie. you could try to commit a shooting with one but you'd have to carry a lot of them. The exception to this would be ports and airports, but man portable AA weapons have a range that is nowhere near the cruising altitude of a commercial airliner so this could be mitigated by creating exclusion zones around airports and critical infrastructure. While they're concealable vs. radar and satellite, they're not concealable vs. patrols and standard ground surveillance.

I recall reading a statement from the Kremlin that, should there be civil war in the u.s., that Russia would step in.

And then you have love crates parachuting into your back yard.

I'd seriously doubt that's open policy but yeah, it's long been an 'open secret' that both Russia and China would have a field day with that

Anyone ever unload on a plane with a normal machine gun, like a Steyr? What are the effects?

tbh all the government forces need to do is just seize and block supply lines to walmarts and aldis and american militias will starve to death and/or surrender.
