Aldra, what did you do about your cat’s bladder stones. My BF dog’s stones got so bad it blocked her urethra, so she couldn’t pee, she had to have open abdominal surgery. They got about 19 stones outta her. She’s a Siberian husky.

Martin, the boy with the bowtie had bladder stones.

Tech: He had bladder stones before we adopted him and needed surgery for it. He's had them once since because he had too muche cheap dry food; the vet gave him bupe to ease the pain and he just had to pass it normally.

The idea behind the the prescription diet is that it contains chemicals meant to acidify the urine, dissolving any crystals that form before they grow into painful stones. For your dog I'd suggest getting a food that's formulated to acidify the urine, specifically containing the ingredient DL-methionine. It's even possible to buy it as a supplement and add it to your pet's food but you'd need to do your research as to how much is appropriate.

The fact that I'm sitting here thinking "am I getting this bupe or is the cat?" means I've probably already lost

Hopefully I'd feel differently if it actually happened to my cat though

I considered it, but he was obviously in pain so I couldn't do that to him. besides he's like 1/20th of my weight so I'd doubt I'd get much of a buzz off of his bupe anyway

    buprenorphine

apparently it's one of the few opioids that doesn't strain the bladder, kidneys or liver

We feed our cats well too they just don't overeat and become fat.
Your cats might be under stress, or bored ... if they become bored they can overeat.
Are you away from home often?
If you can, maybe find some old lady to watch over your cats while you're away.

You could try leaving the tv on and play something on loop
My cats like to stare at the tv if there are bugs or little moving objects
    Try looping something like this:
