If the electrical grid went down for a short while I would do fine, if it was more like a decade or more I would probably see it as a detox from a life of electronics.

That's why it can't be uninstalled, not because the goons who made it couldn't allow you to uninstall it, only because they didn't want it uninstalled. No laws for the Internet, anything goes! And they took full advantage of the lack of legislation and laws in regards the Internet, and they still are.

It seems like a Half life type of situation would occur where they create something, or open a portal to something and suddenly the universe is consumed.
If I were a scientist or official who was in charge of research projects and government stuff I would demand that A.I. research be prevented and classified as a weapon of mass destruction, and that all government funding go towards protecting ourselves against such threats.
